Phuture: Well well well if it isn’t our best friend Fidus – andddd you’ve brought yet another friend :). Super excited for the world to not only hear this track but have yet another chance to get to know you AND your friend Acyan (who is also our friend now too!).
Let’s get things started with a question that is surely on everyone’s minds… What did each of you have for dinner?!
Fidus Achates: I had some chicken katsu and the best pork buns I’ve ever had in my life.
Acyan: Some steamed corn and branded fruity soda. All part of a balanced diet or something like that ahaha

Phuture: How did you two meet?! How long did it take until the big question (of a collab) was popped?
Fidus Achates: A good friend of mine that goes by Dink the Poof had introduced us at some point and I had become a fan of Acyan the moment I heard their music. As far as when the collab started, I’m honestly not sure. My memory is pretty terrible.
Acyan: I had heard of them through their previous work under Phuture Collective, and while talking about it in a call a mutual in the Partica community had introduced me to them. Kind of just hit it off from there.

Phuture: What are your thoughts on NFTs & Web3?
Fidus Achates: I am entirely uneducated on the topic to give any thoughts or opinions.
Acyan: Generally, I’m indifferent due to the contentious environment surrounding them. I love the idea of giving artists more control over their art as independent creators, which is hard to have these days.

Phuture: Let’s talk about ‘Apprehension’! What was the idea behind this track? Please describe the emotions that went into this 🙂
Fidus Achates: I have a difficult time describing my emotions with words, which is one of the main reasons the Fidus Achates project exists. I feel it is a lot easier to describe and display emotions through sound. With that being said, I guess the answer to this question is to check out the tune and let yourself discover the emotions from within.
Acyan: I see it as an uncanny-triumphant number, giving a false sense of comfort to suck you into a sort of crushing victory. The title came from this feeling of a place I wanted to be but wasn’t sure if I was accepted, like your first high school house party after hearing 99 stories about how “crazy” they can get.

Phuture: Two lies & one truth.
Fidus Achates: I live in space. I can travel in time. I can read minds.
Acyan: I once did a 150 mile backpacking trip in 10 days; I once was bitten by a snapping turtle; I once got lost in a cave for 3 hours

Phuture: What has been one of the hardest challenges you’ve had to go through in life & how did you get past it? Any advice for those struggling currently is always appreciated.
Fidus Achates: Honestly, probably just navigating life in general. I have no fucking clue what I’m doing or where I’m going.
Acyan: I think one of the most constant struggles I see in this modern day and age is growing up around people who refuse to accept or understand you for who you are. I am from a far-right, religious family. Growing up as a part of the LGBTQ community with those surroundings has been one of, if not the most difficult parts of my life. Doing your part to grow up a well rounded person surrounded by prejudice and discrimination is hard, but listen to your friends, and those who have learned to grow out of those situations themselves. Try your best to be understanding of mistakes, including your own, and educate those where you can.

Phuture: What’s your favorite song so far in 2022?
Fidus Achates: I’ve been absolutely obsessed with “Let Go!” by Bickle
Acyan: Strong tie between Overload by fauxx, and Miss Lady by llewop.

Phuture: Ask us a question!
Fidus Achates: Are you more of a “get lost in the woods” or a “get lost in the city” kind of person, and why?
Acyan: What’s the best strategy you’ve adopted to manage your time as a label?
Phuture: I used to be a get lost in the woods type person. I’d just venture out and find creeks and get muddy and build fires… and i LOVED it. I’m having a fire right now but it’s in my sideyard… It’s the 5th fire I’ve had in a week & I live a 5 min walk away from a place called powell butte which has MILES of trails and amazing views… However these days I enjoy traveling in the city more than hiking. I have more fun exploring new nooks & crannies in the city of Portland & want nothing more than to venture around when traveling to a new city (which thankfully I’ve been able to do a lot of this year… thanks to music <3 )
Phuture: Sleep less. No other ways to success while doing a bunch at once unless you are willing to give up SOMETHING. If you are a netflix binger – watch less. If you are a video gamer – binge less. End of the day your desires / goals are more important than any extracurricular activity HOWEVER – be sure to still get YOU time (be it netflix, video games, reading, walking, socializing, etc. <3)

Phuture: What does the next year look like for ya? Any album / shows / streams / travel plans being put together?
Fidus Achates: I’ve probably mentioned this in my previous interview, but I’m still attempting to finish “Chapter 2”, a collection of songs that will be strung together to tell a story. Hopefully it will be finished later this year. I have been contemplating releasing a “Chapter 1.5” in the meantime that will be everything that didn’t make it in the first 2 chapters.
Acyan: Well I just started a Drum & Bass alias with my friend Eunki under the name Karraki, and we have some insane releases planned. A remix for Lizdek, at least two compilation placements coming and a ton of insane collabs. As for Acyan I’m really hoping me and my friends/inspirations can just keep moving on this upward trajectory that’s coming with this project.
