phuture : Hey Neguim! So happy to have you on board phuture collective for one of our most inspiring issues yet. Give the world a rundown of who you are, and how long you’ve been doing what you do.
Neguim. : Shout out phuture collective, shout out world. My name is Jose Higo, I’m 24 year sold and I’m a DJ/Producer. I am from Brazil, now living my last months here because I’m gonna move to Australia. I’ve been making music since 2009/2010. And I really love food hahah…
phuture : Looking back over the past few years – what moment or experience has been the most inspiring?
Neguim. : I have had a lot of moments that really inspired me. My first that I remember was when Dean From “Darker Than Wax” sent me a message asking for me to drop something, we did it and after he asked if I would like to enter for family. From then on I started to see so many people from other countries far way from here listening to my music, that gave me so much inspiration. 4 years ago I started to play as a DJ after my homie Sants gave me this idea to play to show my music in different places and allow my music to grow more, I’m so thankful for him, he’s a really special homie.
phuture : Take us through a run down of your production life. What type of mindset do you need to be in for your creativity to flourish? Do you have any rituals or habits that attribute to consistent creations?
Neguim. : I like to be chilled out in my house. I start to find some type of melody or some idea to build some song. Normally in the morning, when I wake up I get some coffee and start work. I start my songs with some little idea after I fill with drums, sometimes I have ideas already in my mind or I try to use my keyboard, I also dig into some samples too.
phuture : If we gave you $1,000,000 in cash what would you do?
Neguim. : Def help my mum, spend some on equipment for work; keyboards, good speakers, then enjoy some good foods, travel to other places to take some other new opportunities and save some money.
phuture : What role does art play in our society? What role should it play?
Neguim. : I think art is something we can use to express who we are and what is in our minds, what we think, what we believe. I think the role it plays now is how it should be.
phuture : Any special plans for 2017? (Album plans, tour plans, upcoming releases, etc.)
Neguim. : I’ve got to make my next Ep for DarkerThanWax so def this year I will drop it. I’ve been making new songs every days and in a few days I will drop something I’ve been working on. I don’t have any tours planned yet but I’m moving to Australia around August/September and hope to get in some travel as well, so if someone would like to see me, contact dean@darkerthanwax.com.
phuture : The whole world is watching you and you have the opportunity to tell them one thing. What is it?
Neguim. : Do what you are good at or do some thing that makes you really happy and work hard at it.
