Be deceased w/ VRANA & RVKIT

RVKIT is certainly no stranger to Phuture. Having released with us several times, and being one of our core team members who we meet with virtually EVERY week for the last couple years. You can’t spell Phuture Collective without RVKIT and vice versa. He brought a friend along, one who we’ve been trying to work with for seemingly ages : VRANA. Let us say no more ; simply press play, and read below.

Phuture: Hello VRANA and RVKIT and thank you for being a part of Phuture Collective’s Issue 10 | Rebirth! We’re excited to be hosting your track Be Deceased on the tape and wish to hear more about your writing process, inspiration, and past releases.

PhutureVRANA, what was the idea that you and RVKIT were initially going for when you started working on Be Deceased?

VRANA: I knew RVKIT and I share a love for dark atmospheres and melodies so that was the main vibe I went for. I sent him a basic instrumental and it grew from there.

PhutureMost of what I’ve heard from you up to this point was mainly hip-hop based. One of your tracks that stuck out is Slow Motion. How do you manage to create such a pleasant atmosphere with so many different sounds?

VRANA: Tracks like Slow Motion and some of my other more mellow ones are the most fun to make. They usually start with messing around on the keyboard until something catches my ear and throwing together some sort of orchestral arrangement. My main focus with those type of tracks is the mood and atmosphere so the last thing I add is the drums.

Phuture: If you were granted the ability to work with three musicians of your choosing, who would they be and why?

VRANA: Definitely Mr. Carmack, Great Dane, and Diversa, as they have been the three most influential producers in my music production.

Phuture: While we’re on the subject, who were some of your favorite musicians growing up? What would you say that you learned about music by listening to these artists?

VRANA: Growing up I listened to a handful of artists, but nobody as much as System of a Down. Their sound was so unique that I couldn’t stop listening as a kid, and they have been my favorite ever since. Their ability to balance heavy elements with unique melodies and harmonies is what sticks with me the most.

Phuture: Where do you wish to be 5 years from now? What are you doing/would you like to start doing in order to get there?

VRANA: hope to continue to make music for as long as I can while pursuing a career as a Sound Designer. I’m currently working on getting my degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

PhutureAlright, thank you VRANA! Can’t wait to see what it is you have in store for us this year. As for the other half of the Rebirth collab track, RVKIT I’ve got some questions for you regarding your musical process as well as some of your past releases with Phuture Collective. I’ll start by asking the same thing I asked VRANA, what was the general idea you were going for during the production of Be Deceased?

RVKIT: I wouldn’t say I was particularly going for any specific idea. VRANA had started the song so I was more so just vibing with what he had sent me.

Phuture: What was your favorite genre of music before you got into electronic music? Would you say that those musicians also help to inspire the sort of music you put out?

RVKIT: I grew up listening to electronic music so there honestly wasn’t really a genre before it for me. My mom was always big on “dance” music and other cool electronic stuff. And once I started digging on my own I got into people like Justice, DANGER, Boys Noize, Deadmau5, Chuckie…..

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Phuture: You’ve had several releases with us ever since Lu’um on issue four, two years ago. What are your thoughts on your first few releases on this platform now, and what are your goals for future releases? Should we expect to continue seeing you appear throughout our tapes?

RVKIT: It’s been an amazing journey with you guys and you better believe you’ll be seeing me around =P

__________________________________________________________________________________________
PhutureFinal question. If you could play out any venue as a headliner, where would you choose? What kind of performance could we expect to see?

RVKIT: honestly I wouldn’t care what the venue was but my goal performance-wise is to eventually be some kind of experience that isnt like a concert but more like a music interactive visual art show type thing. Still working on ideas.

Phuture ( David/Soba) : Thank you both for providing us with fantastic music, as well as a positive presence consistently! I look forward to interviewing you both again for upcoming releases!
