discover more about Bandapears

This is Bandapears‘ second submission with phuture. Since having him join us for issue five, it’s been a pleasure working closer as Bandapears’ creativity is beneficial to phuture. He’s out of Seattle, WA & has a sound he’s been sculpting for quite some time. If you can think of an artist who’s similar, post it in the comments as we’re curious :).

We had a chance to interview Bandapears as part of issue five | KUSH. We recommend you press play though beforehand, to listen to his track ‘Tell Your Friends’. You can find that below.

Question: What are you listening to right now?

Answer: Branko- “Let Me Go” (feat. Nonku Phiri & Mr. Carmack)

Question: Summing up 2015, in a musical nutshell what did music do for you and where did it take you?

Answer: music did strange things for me last year. I played shows. Met cool ass people like Matt from Fish Tank friends, Jamie Blake and Pacific Patterns. Had opportunities to work on music that would later be implemented in a video game. Plus, the folks at phuture are pretty damn cool to me. I feel like doors are opening. Don’t know where they go, but I’m down for anything at this point. Most importantly though,  I made people dance which is easily the best fucking feeling ever.

Question: Let us step in your shoes for a day. What’s for breakfast, whats your daily routine, and when is music involved?

Answer: wake up. Coffee. Hate life and mentally check out for however many hours. Come home. Make music until my desk takes on the consistency of a pillow. Repeat.

Question: You are given the chance to immediately cross ANY item off your bucket list. What do you choose?

Answer: to get to a point where I can pay rent and buy food or travel with earnings from my music.

Question: Any projects coming up that we should know of?

Answer:  I’m doing a ton of remixes. Suicide hotline mixtape. Composing the score for a short film. Releasing my Dose Dumper EP. Collabing with some talented producers. 2016 is shaping up to be busy as hell.

Question:What are your goals, musically, for 2016?

Answer: play more shows and play them in different states. Make music I can be proud of and make people dance.

Question: If you could transform into any creature, what creature would you chose and why?

Answer: I’d be a lyre bird. In their mating rituals, they mimic sounds that they hear e.g. other birds, the sounds of camera shutters, chainsaws, people, & c. They’re like nature’s samplers. Bird Dilla.

Question: How does KUSH have an impact in your daily life? What about your music?

Answer: KUSH paid for my first year of college textbooks ^.^
In music, it’s always been a way to separate myself from whatever I’m working on and take (what I feel is) an objective point of view on it. If I can’t vibe to it stoned, something’s wrong.

Let’s flip the tables. You ask us a question and we’ll premiere the answer when your track gets posted. Go!

Question for phuture (artist) : seeing as how you’re the phuture, where do you see this trend of collectivism in art taking us smaller folks- as exemplified by things like soulection, Josh pan, Owsla- and how we approach the industry?

Answer: We would like to go the route that NEST HQ is going. They have a knack and finding and exposing raw talent. We want to add alot of elements, such as a platform for the people so you aren’t only meeting people from tracks posted… but also for words exchanged on our forum. I see the trend of collectivism working for many people on the soundcloud platform and it’s transferable to life. you want to meet and network with like minds. Groups like soulection & NEST HQ have shown their presence to be bigger than a soundcloud page, which is what we wish to achieve, so everyone on board continues to rise up… like those groups are doing now!

Question: When was the moment you decided that producing was right for you?

Answer: When I was 13, I got a 4 track recorder and a kaossilator. That and I listened to Kid A. Realized I could make experiences instead of ear candy, which has its place in music but I want to make something that makes you feel different at the end. Something that makes you think.

Fire – Baloogz of Fish Tank Friends
Jazzy love fucks – Sage/Astral
And lastly, please listen to Naofumi Shiga aka ns_8532 on SoundCloud.
