Phuture: Well well well – it’s about time we get you on the main page of Phuture. SO excited the time has finally come, Goodknight. :).
You’ve been around the block for a bit, releasing with our own labels Destinuna, Future Vibes & Crest – alongside our super close label homies @ Bonsai & Above the Surface… Which, every artist who climbs those ladders ends up right here. So WOOO!!
Let’s dive right into the thicc of things with what you had for breakfast this morning!
Goodknight.: I just had cashews. Nuts are the foundation of bodily health, no pun intended.

Phuture: Give the reader a brief overview of where you live / how long you’ve been on the music grind / what else you do outside of music 🙂
Goodknight.: I’m currently based south of L.A. in Orange County, California. I’ve been making music for 10 years, but the past few years I really started to put my all into getting better and finding my sound. I also love art (I just got my bachelor’s in Art History), and I have a major passion for soccer (I’ve played soccer all of my life and have been following professional European leagues since I was 12).

Phuture: Let’s talk about ‘Incongruent’. Take us through the production / creation of this track. What were you feeling at the time and what do you hope the listener takes away from this piece?
Goodknight.: Man, I knew this song was going to be really emotional when I started writing the lyrics. I was actually at work when I started the initial composition of the track and chipped away at it until one night I was really feeling some type of way. I wrote the lyrics in my bed just before I was going to hit the hay and then I just had to hop on the mic and get the melody down before it was lost forever. The feeling is pretty standard in terms of my melancholy type of sound, and I really hope that the listener relates to the pain of their own personal heartbreak, and at the same time rebounding from that heartbreak by moving through that pain. My lyrics may sound negative, but it’s all about growth and development when I make tracks like this.

Phuture: Nicotine or Caffeine? Basketball or Bowling? Optimism or Pessimism? Sandwich or Wrap? Potato or Tomato?
Goodknight.: Coffee with my vape. I’m watching the playoffs constantly and the Nets just lost Kyrie and Harden in the last 3 games which is concerning. Always optimistic, but cautiously. Sandwiches are my life. Potatoes are the foundation of humanity.

Phuture: If you could spend one day doing something with an unlimited budget, what would you do that would cause the greatest positive change for the largest number of people?
Goodknight.: So I’ve actually listened to a podcast where a couple of scientists discussed this topic, and I would definitely do what they suggested, which would be to manufacture hundreds of millions of malaria vaccines and distribute them to as much of the continent of Africa as I possibly could.

Phuture: Give us a walk through a typical day… if that’s a thing ;). To add onto this when production gets involved – do you have any rituals?
Goodknight.: I work in mental health which gives extra free time to work on music while clocked in which is amazing, but with music i literally force myself to work within the boundaries of music every single day, no matter what. It’s a compulsion now and I feel sick when I don’t get at least a couple hours a day in.

Phuture: What’s your favorite song on Phuture Collective?
Goodknight.: I have to support my boy capshun and go with Sage. The drop on that song is absolutely solid.

Phuture: Ask us a question!
Goodknight.: What made you guys start up Phuture Collective and all of the parent labels?
Phuture: Love this question! Basically I just wanted to give all of the different artists submitting songs to us a way to continue to get heard. Since Phuture can go 6-12 months with a full catalogue it means a lot of tracks would be in the pipeline too long / the tracks aren’t QUITE at the caliber we strive for at Phuture. Having so many networks also lets artists slowly (or rapidly ;] ) work up towards our main page. This not only shows improvement and persistence but loyalty and mutual trust between both parties… hence forming a bit of a collective :D.

Phuture: What does the next year look like for ya? Any album / shows / streams / travel plans being put together?
Goodknight.: I have an ep that I plan on releasing sometime within the next few months, and I’m looking to start putting out my resume to play some live shows in and around LA, which is going to be awesome.
