We’ve been working with CALIBR for several months and have had the joy of witnessing his vast amounts of creativity being transferred into music. We welcome him aboard phuture with open arms presenting his track ‘Birbs‘ as part of issue seven | SUNSET.

Phuture: Hey there, CALIBR! Nice to have you with us for Issue Seven | SUNSET ! What was the inspiration behind your track, Birbs?
CALIBR: For most of this year, I have been working on tunes that you can play in the club and I have started to feel like it is kind of limiting me as an artist and preventing me from discovering my own sound. I decided to take a step back from my normal style of production and make something refreshing. The track came about very quickly, was a lot of fun to make and my two cockatiels loved to sing along to it, which is where I got the name ‘Birbs’ from.

CALIBR: Probably slave away in FL Studio hahahaha.
Phuture: What is your favorite synthesizer to use, or the one that you use most frequently?
CALIBR: I love using serum.

Phuture: What DAW do you work in? What made you start using that one? Give your explanation for why it is the best DAW and why everyone should use it in under two sentences. Go.
CALIBR: I started with FL because I googled ‘how to make house music’ or something alone those lines and a tutorial using FL studio came up. Also, I can’t be bothered switching to Ableton. FL Studio is the best daw because its very easy to use and understand and it looks really cool.

Phuture: What got you into making electronic music? Everyone gets involved differently, and everyone has a different story to tell. What’s yours?
CALIBR: I didn’t really listen to music at all until my cousin showed me dubstep when I was around 12 years old. I kind of followed trends in electronic music and at the beginning of last year I decided I would have a go at making house music. Thank goodness I moved on to producing other genres.
Phuture: Do you have any pets? If so, what kind/why? If not, what pets do you wish to have, if any?
CALIBR: Yes I have two cockatiels, I feel like they’re a pretty common pet here in Australia just because they are native and very easy to tame.
Phuture: Do you plan on releasing more music continuously throughout 2017? Are you excited to take on the new year? What plans do you have for your music this coming year?
CALIBR: 2017 is going to be very different for me. I am planning on starting off on a clean slate and working on music that isn’t necessarily meant to be played in clubs, hopefully I will be able to discover my own sound and make an impact on the Perth scene.
