Kiedo is no stranger to phuture collective, as this marks his third release with us!! Go ahead and check out our interview with him here as you take a ‘temporary vacation’ with his track below.

Our interview with the Kiedo was curated by Soba of the phuture collective team.

Interview with Kiedo:

phuture: Hello Kiedo! Nice to be speaking with you. We are in love with Temporary Vacation. It’s a wonderful way to end ISSUE SIX | LEMONGRASS. Would you mind introducing yourself, and telling us what inspired this track?

KiedoSomething I feel that is very important is to draw inspiration from your experiences, as well as your friends. This track was made after my girlfriend had spent a week living in my dorm room because she was mad at her roommate, we work on music all the time and the vocals in the track we’re her improvising, a bunch of the instruments were also made using her voice.

phuture: What made you want to work with Amalia Maygora on this track? Her vocals are great, and accompany the track very nicely!

Kiedo :  I always want to work with vocalists, I work a lot with a friend of mine who sings very RnB inspired vocals. Amalia (aka. Cool Girl) is my girlfriend so we make music together all the time. She is an incredible scat singer and I record her voice any chance I get.

phuture: What is your routine regarding music? By that I mean, do you have a pattern of how you begin a track? IF so/If not, how do you generally go about your production?

Kiedo  : It kinda depends on what I’m given to work with. Generally I make chords first and then build everything around that. But if I find something that I really want to sample, or a great vocal I usually put it in sampler and make weird shit with it. I also pretty much always resample my entire track and use it to make textures.

phuture: The drums on Temporary Vacation are fantastic! They’re very clean. What made you choose the instruments/percussion samples you chose when working on this song?

Kiedo :The energy of the chords as well as the filter I used gave everything what I felt was a very squishy sort of watery feel. I wanted percussion that would fit this feeling.

phuture: Another thing I noticed while listening to this track is the use of pads and synth patterns that are reminiscent of video game style patterns/sounds. Does any sort of video game music, or music from other sorts of entertainment have any influence on you? If so, which?

Kiedo : Fuuuuuuuckkk Yessssssss, I grew up playing tons of super nintendo games plus tons of Pokemon. I feel that the tunes from those games are forever etched in my musical brain. I don’t think i’ll ever be able to make music without a video game sensibility.

__________________________________________________________________________

phuture: What sort of musical genres have inspired you to create the music that you create? How long have they inspired you to create some form of art?

Kiedo: I grew up listening to pretty much everything under the sun. Some of my earliest memories are my dad playing me kraftwerk, I remember feeling incredibly inspired at a young age. As I grew up and started listening to my own music I was very inspired by hip hop, and from that I was introduced to the underground scene of electronic music. My biggest inspirations are really my friends, but if I had to pick some other artists, MAXO, Kagwe, ABSRDST, and Monte Booker.

__________________________________________________________________________

phuture: What can we expect from you in the phuture? What are your goals regarding music, and how do you plan to accomplish them?

Kiedo : TONS MORE MUSIC, TONS MORE BETTER MUSIC. I plan on locking myself in my room and doing nothing but improving my skill and sound. I’m so excited for what is to come and I’m extremely excited to share it with my Phuture Fam!!!
