meet: william crooks

What are you doing at this very moment [besides this interview]?

Bumping the South East Grind Vol. 3 and dicking around on Twitter. lol.

How would you describe your sound?

Bass-heavy rap shit.

Do genres define or limit us?

Hmm, I think they can do both. On one hand I love reading what bloggers have to say about my music. It often provides insight into what people get out of my music; what they hear and how they hear it. On the other hand…

DAW of choice?

Ableton

Why do you produce and what keeps you going?

I produce for a lot of reasons. I love learning and creating. I love that moment when I play a track for my friends and they go, “whoa shit, you made this??” I love the feeling of hearing something in my head and being able to make it tangible, make it real. It’s given me an incredibly positive outlet and connected me with a lot of great people who I wouldn’t have otherwise met. I keep going because I’ve come too far to stop now.

Tell us about where you are from and the music scene there

lol. All I’m gonna say is I’m very fortunate to have internet access and my own personal computer.

Thoughts of The Law of Attraction?

I try to stay based and do based things everyday. As a result, my life is pretty based. Stay based.

Where do you see yourself 1 year from now? 2 years? 5 years?

Oh man, I really try to stay focused on the here and now. I’m a strong believer that no matter how much planning or goal-setting you do, all it takes for your life to change is one thirty second moment. I hope by 2020 this music thing will have some sort of permanent place in my life and wherever I end up I hope I’m with the homies.

Who are some up and coming producers that we should check out?

If I go for people under 5k: Mbe, Eyesz, Klrx, Glassy, CMRN, Ellwhy, Only, & vincentleone.

What four songs have been the most influential to where you’ve gotten to today?

Damn that’s a hard question. I changed my answers a bajillion times. I could cite entire artist discographies. But if I have to pick, at this very moment, this list might look like:
1) James Blake – I Never Learnt To Share
2) Clams Casino – I’m God
3) Slum Village – Fall N Love
4) Mr. Carmack – Hour 3 ft. Donnis

What do you eat for breakfast?

william crooks: In a perfect world? Waffles, eggs, bacon, real maple syrup, and some fancy Hawaiian coffee.
