If you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed the steady ripples that Pail is making in the lo-fi pond. His Rainy Day submission for issue three is no exception. Be sure to follow this Californian on his climb and check out a link to his track at the end of the interview.
Phuture: Firstly, besides this interview, what are you doing at this very moment?
Pail: I just got back from thrifting at Buffalo Exchange with some of the people on Real Ideal World. I am about to start listening to some jazz to get the creativity going
Phuture: What song has been following you around lately?
Pail: I can’t get Everyone Loves the Sunshine by Roy Ayers out of my head. I play it everyday and I’m currently working on a little remix
Phuture: You are given the object of your desire (money, fame, glory, happiness). The catch is that once you accept it, you can never get rid of it and you will never again desire anything else. So basically, you will be content for the rest of your life, having obtained the one (and now only) thing you wanted. Do you accept the offer and live in contentment with your greatest desire or do you reject it and continue to strive in uncertainty but with other possibility?
Pail: I would not accept the offer. Life would be worthless if you didn’t have a desire for anything. Desire creates motivation and momentum towards better things. Without desire, life becomes boring and repetitive
Phuture: Tell me a secret.
Pail: Most of my samples come from Hanna Barbera cartoons
Phuture: What projects do you have coming up in the near future?
Pail: I have a couple collabs with Weaver Beats, Zero Tep, and Alec Good in the works right now as well as my sophomore EP
Phuture: You inherit an estate worth $100 million which is comprised mostly of an old, large house surrounded by acreage. The house is decorated with lots of antiques. The stipulation of the inheritance is as follows: You either have to accept it as is or sell it as is. If you choose to sell, you can only buy 1 thing with the money. Do you keep the house or do you keep the money? What do you do with the house/money?
Pail: I would sell the house and use all of the money to create a huge recording/producing studio open to the public for anyone with an idea to come in and put it down on a program. I know a lot of people including myself that would’ve benefited from having an open place to work on music with good equipment and actual versions of DAWs instead of random torrented ones that crash everyday
Phuture: What’s the best thing since sliced bread?
Pail: Jazz music
