Phuture: ZenAware! It was so great meeting you in person, and playing shows together in Seattle & Portland a few weeks back. Your sets in both cities were inspiring & euphoric – and you made sure the dance floor was bubbling. How is your week going & what have you been upto?

ZenAware: My weeks going well! Haven’t been sleeping much but I’ve just been producing so it’s worth it! I’ve just been doing what I usually do, making coffee, making music, and kicking it with some friends.

Phuture: Let’s talk a bit about ‘Sayonara’ – this is, yet again, another leap of evolution for you and your sound. What were the inspirations behind this piece?

ZenAware:Honestly the inspiration came from a lot of different things and artists. I think as far as structure goes I took inspiration from hearing people’s live sets, I wanted to make a song with a short intro and a longer drop so it was easier to transition into during a show. Sound design wise it was just playing around with erosion and it ended up sounding good so I went with it. Melodically, I think there’s some Carmack influence as far as the Timing goes. In terms of what inspired the song as a whole was just me leaving a chapter of my life after graduating high school, so it was inspired by saying goodbye, hence the name “sayonara”

ZenAware: I feel euphoria a lot. It’s usually music induced. Music makes me so f&$@&$& happy

ZenAware: Yea! I’m working on collabs with unexotic, lokahi, and chromonicci, however It took me way too long to send him some stems back (sorry chromo)
