Phuture: It’s weird to think this is only your third release on our main page! What a third one though! We can’t wait to talk about this track and some other stuff but first – let’s start off with what you ate for lunch :).
Floret Loret: I had a good ol’ chicken tender sub with mac n cheese on the side, sweet potato salad, chicken fettuccine with alfredo sauce, some green peas, pumpkin pie with the whipped cream, a honeycrisp apple cut ¼” slices with green grapes and pineapple chunks, a chicken caesar salad, whole-wheat spinach mac ‘n’ cheese with broiled tomatoes, grilled chipotle pork tacos with slaw, pan-seared salmon with kale and apple salad, HAM, and a butter croissant

Phuture: Jumping right into it – what inspirations were drawn behind ‘Surreal Malignancy’?
Floret Loret: I wanted to experiment a lot with less and I also wanted to see how bizarre I can get with this track. I started with a perc sample and made a synth patch in Massive. I kept processing and bouncing over and over again, adding more layers and weird stuff to it. I gave it some structure and continued to do the same process. Ended up with something really weird as the final result.

Phuture: Recapping this year you landed releases with ADBC Records, Street Ritual & VALE. You also had that giant X&G remix & a Phuture release. It seems you are picking your places more carefully this year. What goes into finding a home for your sound?
Floret Loret: It all depends on the right audience for the track. The ADBC record I made with Baron Fields back in July and we realized it sort of sounded like an eerie halloween tune so we sent it there. For Phuture – I love going as far as I can with sound design, while also trying to fit within a theme. To me, it’s good exercise. Each label curates to a different audience, so it’s important to figure out if: A) you want to release with a label and if your sound is something new that you can bring to the table or add to their mix or B) if you want to solo release. To each their own.

Phuture: You didn’t put out THAT much music this year… please tell us you’ve been working on something behind the scenes :D.
Floret Loret: Nope! I took the time to just write music and reflect on what I wanted to do and not focus so much on releasing. I played a couple shows this year, which was on my to-do list for this year, so I am grateful for those opportunities. I started writing an EP back in May which is finally finished, but I am starting the new year with several new tunes.

Phuture: Oooh tell us more about this EP! When can we expect it? What are the inspirations behind it? What can we expect to hear from this?
Floret Loret: So this EP is a representation of myself through my music. I’ve found a coherent outlet to put these ideas into a form that make sense to myself and I’ve dedicated some of the songs to people that I cared about the most. It’s a wide range of chill, electronic, experimental and emotional pieces of art that I have been working on since May. I plan on releasing it sometime Feb – March with a couple singles in Feb. Some of the inspirations behind this ep are Flume, Electric Mantis, Sumthin Sumthin, Delay. and Zotti.

Phuture: Do you think OJ was innocent or guilty and why?
Floret Loret: Guilty, everyone knows he did it.

Phuture: What kind of goals do you have for the next year?
Floret Loret: To be happier, I started a new job that I am really enjoying and even though it might take me away from my music for a little bit, I’ll be less stressed which will help me focus more on writing new tunes (and another ep or 3)

Phuture: Yo – shoutout 5 artists who will change the game in 2019 – so shoot!
Floret Loret: B-Dos, yojas, dull machine, former hero, low poly

Phuture: Anything else you want to say before we part ways for now?
Floret Loret: Music doesn’t need to be a race, take time in your craft and be persistent in working towards your personal goals.
