CHROME REPUBLIC was recommended to us by the founder of Top Cats, as an artist we should check out… so we did just that! Upon checking him out we discovered that his sound is one to be inspired by. You can hear what we’re talking about by checking out his song ‘beetroots’ here below.

phuture: Before we begin, would you mind introducing yourself? Where are you from & how long have you been producing?
CHROME REPUBLIC: Melbourne, Australia and I’ve lost count how long I’ve been doing this… maybe 9 years.

phuture: Who are 3 of your top influences to your sound?
CHROME REPUBLIC: It’s hard to pinpoint. I’m a huge, huge fan of JNTHN STEIN but I take pride in listening to and supporting small artists. I’m not afraid to say Carmack has made some pretty sweet stuff, and anything by Captain Murphy/Flying Lotus bangs pretty hard.

phuture: where do you want to be a year from now?
CHROME REPUBLIC: For some reason this made me laugh… For music, it’s baby steps. I want more people to listen but I have other creative outputs. I’m certainly not going to avoid opportunities but it’s not really a priority to lose my mind in logistics. I just want to have fun and make stuff that I would listen to while meeting other creators.

phuture: How often do you collaborate with other artists? What do you find beneficial from collaborating?
CHROME REPUBLIC: I have some friends that banter back and forth with music and ideas but in terms of a full collaboration, I always have something in the works. Collaboration is honestly the main reason why I am creating.

phuture: How did you find out about phuture collective :)?
CHROME REPUBLIC: A guy that runs Don’t Mind Us records referred me to the blog, Meku. Really great guy. I’ve actually seen a few others guys I know using the service just through browsing so it’s pretty cool to see this little network build.

phuture: Got any other releases lined up the next few months? If so, when and where?!
CHROME REPUBLIC: Probably less on my own soundcloud. I like spacing things out and keeping it diverse but there is plenty of music coming. I have some music out there on Youtube just uploaded on small promotional channels. I might upload tracks in random places and if people want it they can find it.

phuture: If your sound was an animal or species, what would it be?
CHROME REPUBLIC: This is seriously the hardest question ever – Maybe like, fire ants or something.

phuture: What’s the most interesting sound you have used in sampling or production?
CHROME REPUBLIC: I think once I slowed down a recording of my friend screaming by 500%, pitched down and added a lot of reverb and it sounded like a fog horn on a ship.
