As of this moment he’s released only one other track to the public but you can rest assured knowing more content is ahead. Phuture: Welcome to issue seven, CHRIS POP! We’re happy to have you for the first time on phuture collective with your soul-gripping tune, XPLOR. Mind giving us a little background on this track?
CHRIS POP: I was on the bus on my way home and I had an hour to spare so I decided to mess around with a few iOS samples and see what I could make with them. Surprisingly enough I made something that I actually liked so I tried my hardest to finish it in a few days.

Phuture: What process does your music general go through during production? What area do you feel the strongest in regarding melody or rhythm for instance?
CHRIS POP: I usually start by making a chord progression or messing around with a few samples that I like and then it all just flows from there. I personally don’t think that my melody-making skills are very strong because it takes me 5 melodies to make one that I actually like, although I think structuring chord progressions is what I am best at. I have scrapped so many songs due to this.

Phuture: Who are a few of your current favorite musicians/inspirations? Do you have a favorite painter or visual artist as well? If so, do you ever feel inspired to write music because of something you’ve seen visually?
CHRIS POP: I have so many inspirations, but if I could pick out my biggest ones currently they would probably be Sam Gellaitry, Myles Jaeger, and Krayysh. I don’t really follow visual art or painting, but my friend Warren FLW takes some really cool pictures that definitely give me inspiration to write music.

Phuture: Why XPLOR? Any reason for coming up with that title?
CHRIS POP: I honestly just think of titles right off the top of my head for most of my songs. During the time when XPLOR was made, my friends and I would always go around Streetsville in our spare time and explore places so I thought the name “XPLOR” would be the most fitting. The cover art for XPLOR is actually one of my friends walking up the stairs of this abandoned building we found in Streetsville.

Phuture: Where is your favorite location that you’ve ever visited? Why there?
CHRIS POP: Toronto because of the scenery and the endless possibilities. You can never get bored when you’re in Toronto.

Phuture: What do you do on an average day off? Let’s say you’ve been given the day off with no responsibilities. What would you do with those 24 hours?
CHRIS POP: Make music and chat with friends.

Phuture: What are your plans for your music? Where do you wish to go? To whom do you wish to spread the sounds of CHRIS POP?
CHRIS POP: I wish to make music forever and to pursue a career that allows me to make as much music as possible. There’s nothing I love more than making music. If I can inspire others to follow their dreams and do what they want with their lives, I would feel as if I have truly succeeded with my music.

Phuture: Thanks again for being a part of phuture collective’s Issue Seven | SUNSET, CHRIS POP! Finally, we understand you have a background in creating dubstep. Do you mainly focus on making those kinds of tunes, or do you try to stay skilled in several areas of writing?
CHRIS POP: I try to make whatever seems interesting to me. I have experimented with so many different genres and learned so much from making each genre. Everyday I try to fit in some time to practice making music and to learn new things so that I could one day reach the level of music production that I dream to produce at. When I used to make dubstep, I was trying to challenge myself by making a genre that seems a lot more difficult to make than other genres, yet I’ve always really wanted to make music that truly expresses my emotions. I honestly don’t even know what genre music like XPLOR would be, although I definitely enjoy making music a lot more now that I’m making music that accurately reflects my thoughts and emotions.
