phuture: So happy to have you on board again Neon Chief! It’s been a pleasure witnessing each other’s growth over the past year+. What have you been up to the past few months since we last had the opportunity to interview you?
Neon Chief: Navigating life haha just lasting the winter really. Ignoring cabin fever, designing stuff and studying music theory.

phuture: How does ‘LUST’ resonate with you as a person? What about you as an artist?

Neon Chief: Personally, Lust resonates on that basic young human level. Like there’s attractive people everywhere and even more beautifully there are people who are intensely attracted to each other everywhere. As an artist, it’s probably the driving force behind mine and most modern music in general. Even just the name of my track friction suggests rubbing which is what sex is at its most basic level hahah

phuture: Can you recollect a spiritual experience in your life? Doesn’t have to be religious, just something that altered the course/perspective of your journey.
Neon Chief: I can think of one specifically. I was driving through the mountains and looked up after rounding a bend and this mountain just went straight up into the clouds and I had this sense of scale. It was simultaneously crushing and exalting. Like realizing my own insignificance was a release rather than a curse.
_____________________________________________
phuture: What inspired you to create this track? What are your general creative influences?
Neon Chief: I just love funk music and thick synths and funky bass lines as far as the inspiration for this track goes. I also like garage and house music so this is just exploring all of that!

phuture: What is the last song on your soundcloud feed that truly captivated your attention?
Neon Chief: “wntr w/ rilla force – coca” still has me grooving hahaha.
____________________________________________________
phuture: What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you, that you’re comfortable telling potentially thousands of people?
Neon Chief: That’s a tough one haha probably my gf emailing Gallant’s manager and getting a response and getting to meet him

_____________________________________________
phuture: Have you ever used any psychedelic or mind altering substances, either to influence your sound, or otherwise? What are your thoughts on psychedelics?

Neon Chief: I’ve used some in general but not necessarily for my sound. I think they’re awesome even as an experience and the research surrounding them is very encouraging!

phuture: Give us some shoutouts of artists who deserve more recognition.

Neon Chief: Oh gosh better dive in ahaha: EXPLORE, Cig.Margot, Coubo, CYGN, Mo Vibez, Evil Needle, The Kount, Tek.Lun, Electric Mantis, Naji, xander, workers, nekoyle and that still feels like not enough haha but I’ll cut myself off
