 Listen/Download

You’ll want to hear today’s ‘local forecast’ presented to you by PeriKardium, with his first release on phuture collective. We would put words to the track and the artist – but instead how about you press play on this track here, then read our interview with PeriKardium below? Sounds like a plan!!

Interview with PeriKardium:

phuture: Hey PeriKardium, welcome aboard phuture! It’s been a pleasure getting to know you over the last year & we’re in love with your track for SUNRISE. Tell us a bit about you!

PeriKardium : Hello, my name PeriKardium (points if you know what it is… I will let you know the answer at the end of this Q and A). I produce cloudy type vapor beats.

I’m from Canada. That’s cool.

Oh and also I want to be a medical doctor.

phuture:  Coffee or tea?

PeriKardium : Tea. All the way. I am not a fan of coffee. I drink masala tea all day, err day.

phuture: What is the last thing you typically think about before you fall asleep? [elaborate]

PeriKardium : Hmm. Good question. The -last- thing is probably what am I doing the next day. Am I going to work? After work? Gaming a bit (do I have something scheduled with my friends)? Music? Once I hit the music question I run in my head a project I am working on, thinking of something to change, add, edit, work on.

At some point I fall asleep.

phuture: What inspired you to start producing and what keeps you going?

PeriKardium : Hmm. I have had music with me for sometime. I started playing clarinet, my first instrument, when I was very young. Moved onto bass clarinet. Then bass guitar (do you see something there?). Then into more bassy electronic music.

What drew me to producing? I thought it was interesting. I liked music, and was getting myself into electronic music more (when I was younger) and wanted to try to “make it”.

A lot of my early stuff was horrid.

But hey, I learned. Overtime I found a niche, a culture of music and art that I felt belonging to, and found myself really “into” what I was making.

What keeps me going? I just like it. It’s fun. It’s fun to make something “out of nothing” – to see this idea or concept you have in your head take some shape or form. It’s creative, and I like to be creative.

Also it’s a decent ice-breaker,  I guess.

Hustle hard in the game, son.

phuture: What’s something ‘special’ about you that we wouldn’t know by hearing your music?

PeriKardium : I want to be a doctor! Specifically an addictions or adolescent psychiatrist.

I have a passion for learning and engaging in mental health, it’s something that really began in my later years in university after self-reflection on my own experiences, and as I began seriously understand and develop more as a producer.

This is also probably a reason why I engage in music; it was, and has been, an outlet for my to explore and understand my thoughts and ideas. I think a creative endeavor and activity is something that very beneficial as a practice for mental health.

phuture: Any projects coming up that we should be aware of :)?

PeriKardium : Um. Yes. A few collabs. I am hoping to do an EP with a friend of mine.

It’ll be cool. More releases!

phuture: Share your goals with us for 2017

PeriKardium :  I’d like to get my music out there more. Get more ears on it. I love to share music (as we all do). So in general just grow as an artist. Continue to develop “my sound”, whatever that may be. Meet more artists, learn new things, engage in new experiences.

I’d love to play a live show or set this new year. That’d be dope.

Medical school is also something I hope I can start in 2017 (I have made reference to this three times now. I guess I do talk about school a lot).

Call myself Yung Doctah.

phuture: Any shoutouts to those who need some more attention ?

PeriKardium :  Sound Patrol (https://soundcloud.com/sound-patrol), who has supported my releases since I first cold messaged him oh so long ago (he is the reason I am here today, I will say).

ye. (https://soundcloud.com/pronouncedyea), he has gotten a fair bit of attention recently. Someone I love to show my WIPS to and get feedback from. Super great guy.

KAHN 美的 (https://soundcloud.com/kahnbiteki), I have done collabs with this man. If you like vaporwave,vaportrap, hit this guy up. a e s t h e t i c s.

Oh hey, also, PeriKardium. The actual spelling is Pericardium. It’s the layer of tissue that surrounds the heart. It helps to protect it and anchored to the body wall.

There you go, an anatomy lesson for the day.
