repose with gahn.

 Listen/Download

Interview curated by Michael & Megyn Van Wyk of the Phuture Collective team.

Phuture Collective: Welcoming back another emotionally-inciting track from one of our crew. Thanks for releasing this gem with us, gahn! Can you tell us a bit about what went into the making of repose and, for those of us that don’t know, what repose means?

gahn: Repose sorta started out as an atmospheric track and then sorta turned it a fraction of what it is now. But the phuture gang really pushed me to take it further and really make it what it was today! Repose means a state of stability and relaxation, that’s what I try to be in. Not getting mad, sad, or upset. Just chill. Sometimes that’s what we all need.

Phuture Collective: This is your second release with phuture. What have you been up to since issue seven?

gahn: I’ve been producing a lot of music for singers and rappers lately and my own personal music is taking a backseat. I’m finding a lot more satisfaction in doing songs that are more than just an instrumental. Same thing goes for my own personal music. I plan on releasing a bunch more stuff with singers!

Phuture Collective: Based out of California, tell us how you find tranquility in your daily life.

gahn: I find tranquility in the 30 min lunch break at my crazy job haha. That and trying to go out and do least one fun thing everyday. No wasted days!

Phuture Collective: Your sound is truly inspirational, and you are gaining momentum as you grow into it. What wisdom have you picked up along the way that you can share with aspiring producers?

Gahn: Just don’t worry about the technical details too much. The music is most important. Too many producers spend too much time mixing and not enough time writing.

Phuture Collective: What can we look forward to seeing and hearing from you in the next year?

Gahn: MORE SONGS WITH SINGERS! And definitely stuff that is more in a pop direction. I find the challenge of writing catchy and gripping songs really rewarding.

Phuture Collective: If you could keep any animal as a pet, what would it be and what would you name it?

Gahn: A raccoon (obviously domesticated) and I would name it rocky.

Phuture Collective: Which 3 artists do you think deserve more recognition?

gahn: RZON, stripes, and charles nimbus
