Interview curated by David Kirkus aka Soba of the Phuture Collective team.
Phuture: Hello there CCIV and przm! I’m very excited to be asking you both some questions relating to your new track on issue 10, your earliest artistic influence as well as some fun stuff. So without further ado, CCIV, what was the initial vibe you were going for with Sassafras? Was the final product what you expected to end up with or did you experiment throughout the track?
CCIV: I wanted to make something trippy and dark when I first started the idea. The final product was a lot better than i expected it to be and I definitely tried some unusual things throughout the track to make it sound more experimental as opposed to a generic trap track.

Phuture: Are you more of a hardware or software synth user? That being said, what is your favorite piece of hardware/favorite virtual instrument?
CCIV: I’ve never really had the chance to work with much hardware so this is kinda tough to answer but for bass music i tend to use serum the most but for trap i like to use abletons sampler with just weird one shot samples then experiment with abletons effects to get a cool sounding lead.

Phuture: What were you listening to the first time you realized you wanted to create your own music/art?
CCIV: oddly enough, I was listening to some old basshunter and that made me curious how it was all made and not much longer after that I downloaded fl studio and started making cheesy dance music haha.

Phuture: Awesome! Now for a change of pace. What was your favorite cartoon or children’s show growing up?
CCIV: Max & Ruby or Curious George lol
_______________________________________________________________
Phuture: Alright, one more for CCIV and then we’ll move on over to przm! If you were suddenly disqualified from recording music, what would be your alternative career/hobby?
CCIV: I honestly don’t know what i’d do without music but hopefully something i love and enjoy doing.

Phuture: Thank you very much CCIV! przm, if you could use 3 adjectives to describe Sassafras, what would they be and why?
przm: I honestly don’t know what i’d do without music but hopefully something i love and enjoy doing.

Phuture: How do you prefer to listen both when producing and when listening to music for pleasure? Monitors/speakers or headphones?
przm: trippy, raw, and chaotic
_______________________________________________________________
Phuture: Do you have a pet? If so, what? If not, what would be your ideal pet?
przm: i like my music loud and i like to move when i listen, so monitors/speakers are my preferred method of listening in general. When it comes to production,

Phuture: Who’s remix of Kaaris’ Chargé do you think is the best? I’m partial to Mr. CARMACK’s, although Alexander Lewis’ is also fantastic.
przm: i have two cats. Rowan and lucy. Lucy is a polydactyl cat too, which means she has 6 toes on every paw.

Phuture: Final question. What venue do you want to play out the most? If you could end your career with a sold out show, where would it be? Any sentimental value associated with it, or is it a dream/goal of yours?
przm: not too long ago, i found a remix/edit from a producer by the name of DELAY. I have been playing his version is my sets now for a while. Very tastefully done, and I am a huge fan of the heavily distorted 808 (when done right).

Phuture: Final question. What venue do you want to play out the most? If you could end your career with a sold out show, where would it be? Any sentimental value associated with it, or is it a dream/goal of yours?
przm: if i could play a sold out show, i would play it at red rocks. I like everything about it, especially the vibe and architecture. I have never personally been to the venue, but its on my bucket list. Red rocks has so much history and being such a prestigious venue, gracing that stage would be a dream come true.

Phuture: Thank you so much przm and CCIV for delighting us with your wonderful responses! I look forward to interviewing you both again, as well as hearing more bangers from you both!
