Røhaan is no stranger to Phuture Collective. Having been with our team for nearly a year & having just released with us on our last issue (eight | HEARTBREAK), it’s safe to say you’ll be seeing a-lot more from this UK-based artist. He’s prepared something special so don’t sleep on this exclusive interview as you press play to hear ‘Program Error‘ as part of issue nine | ANXIETY.
Interview curated by Michael of the Phuture Collective team.
Phuture Collective: Røhaan!! It’s so amazing to have you on Phuture with your first single release. Especially with such a number like ‘Program Error’. We’ve seen you go from 200 to 2,000 followers in less than a year, there is non stop momentum all around you! Outside of being the producer you are, you’ve also started a new Label known as Enigma Selects, and continued to assist TrapStyle UK to make them known. We’ll go over all that stuff a little later though, for now – what have you been up-to the past couple weeks?
Røhaan: Hey up! Been busy as always, i like to stay overly busy as i’ve got a lot i want to achieve before the year is up! So i’ve been assisting a few labels artistically and also engineering some tracks for some label deadlines. 2 music videos en route, one of which is for a huge ass label which i’m stoked about!

Phuture Collective: Let’s talk about your music. Your track on Jadu Dala, as of now, is around 50,000 plays -and you’ve also released with MidiBoyz, I AM SO HIGH Recs., & even been featured on Noisia Radio. What’s motivating you towards spreading your sound out among some of the hottest tastemaker labels out there?
Røhaan: I feel not enough people send their stuff out! Just go for it and see who bites! Ive had a bucket list of who to release with so im slowly ticking people off. The motivation is as i get through these labels its getting me closer to the bigger Labels! And its working! Meeting the dopest people on the way and made some genuine friends!

Phuture Collective: ‘Program Error’ is quite the notable jump in direction for your sound. What spawned the leap & what went into the creation of this track?
Røhaan: The love for DnB… So i’ve taken the energy from DnB and slammed it into some half time wonk! Also a lot of inspiration from Untitld and the Lost Dogz squad to be honest! Keep an eye out for more like this.. This is phase 2 of this new direction!

Phuture Collective: We hear you moved into a new place, and you are surrounded by like-minded producers! Even though it just happened, how do you think this is going to affect your music?
Røhaan: Dude my productivity i feel will be though the roof! And we have a set of CDJs so ill be mixing a lot more! Just generally more a positive vibe and energy

Phuture Collective: Let’s take a moment to discuss Enigma Selects. Your label has this raunchy, grimey, experimental bass which is unlike any other channel. Since we get to work together side-by-side on this, we’ve been able to notice your pickiness, which is completely acceptable. What does it take for a track to please your ears enough to be featured on Enigma? What do you look/listen for?
Røhaan: I want originality and no half ass music! Why release something you dont feel 100% on! Im looking for only original bass music. Things id aspire to have produced, like a library of bangers you can drop live really! Looking for the page to gain respect in the industry.

Phuture Collective: Let’s talk about TrapStyle! Tell us a bit about what you do for them and what your/their future has in store.
Røhaan: I run Trapstyle UK with two other great guys! We have got huge plans for this year! I cant actually say much but by the end of the year it will be a game changer for the local UK trap/bass scene.

Phuture Collective: What was the first album you ever purchased? What was the last one you purchased?
Røhaan: First : The Prodigy – Invaders Must Die. Last : Flume – Skin (LP)
______________________________
Phuture Collective: Who are three of your biggest influences?
Røhaan: straight up The Glitch Mob, Flume & Skrillllllllll, generic but its the squad i got into the scene listening to
______________________________
Phuture Collective: How has Phuture Collective played a part in your journey?
Røhaan: Without PC i would still be at 200 followers. Simple as that! You guys and Michael have changed my life amazingly! And im grateful as fuck for that
_____________________________________________
Phuture Collective: Any plans we should know about? I.E – Album plans, singles on other labels, tours, etc.
Røhaan: Welll i have a Secret EP in the works with another artist! 2 Music videos coming and also some potential real life music moves! Huge label releases en route. Cant say much right now but these are things i never thought i would achieve!
