Today you get acquainted with BONHAM CARTER out of Hayward, California. This artist has a forward-thinking, groovey, hip hop, future vibe that’s just too hard to genre-fy. Definitely scope out some of his other music after listening to his track ‘Karma Cafe’ below.
Our interview with BONHAM CARTER was curated by Soba of the phuture collective team..
Interview with BONHAM CARTER:
phuture: Hey there BONHAM CARTER! We’re happy to have you on ISSUE SIX | LEMONGRASS. Would you mind telling us what you’re all about?
BONHAM CARTER: Beats, ….n coffee
__________________________________________________________________________
phuture: We’re really digging Karma Cafe! I feel that it exerts the right energy for the issue. What made you want to go this direction with the track?
BONHAM CARTER: I’ve just been experimenting a lot lately I wasn’t going in knowing I was going to make that beat, it just happened kinda like a lot of my beats do.

phuture: The claps in the track really stand out. I like the offset layering a lot. Do you like using organic sounding percussion like this often? Why?
BONHAM CARTER: Hell yeah if i can create high quality organic sounds I probably would only use that. Apparently its like the “thing” to do in this community, you tend to see the people going more organic and delivering quality doing pretty well.

phuture: What genre do you most associate with? I can tell based on your submission that you aren’t unfamiliar with future/chord heavy tracks.
BONHAM CARTER: I don’t know I wouldn’t label my music anything. I don’t want the “future beats” people to pick apart my tracks and compare me to one of the most recent sensations. But if I had to label it; experimental I guess.

phuture: Do you have a favorite musician/musicians within the electronic community? Outside of the electronic community? Why these artists?
BONHAM CARTER:
__________________________________________________________________________
phuture: If you could choose one artist to work alongside in the studio, who would it be and why?
BONHAM CARTER: Drake so I can make some swanky giggy trap shit and sell my soul for riches so everybody’s straight.
__________________________________________________________________________
phuture:What are your musical motivations? What keeps you going when you’re feeling uninspired?
BONHAM CARTER: Goodnews……badnews
__________________________________________________________________________
phuture: What is your favorite thing that comes with producing music? Personally, I love the community. There are wonderful people everywhere!
BONHAM CARTER: Yeah the people can be really dope. But my favorite thing is when the music just magically comes together and the universe is in your favor for that moment.
__________________________________________________________________________
phuture: Why is BONHAM CARTER capitalized?
BONHAM CARTER: I dunno, maybe because at one point in time i wanted u to see it better.. or because those letters look better capitalized haha.
