Guess who’s back with their second release on Phuture Collective? None other than ‘leet‘ who has been honing into a sound which simultaneously few and many words can accompany. We had a chance to go over 2017 and reflect on the phuture with this emerging artist.
Interview curated by Floret Loret of the Phuture Collective team.

Phuture: Welcome back leet, were excited to have you back with another release on phuture. Looking back at this year for you, with multiple releases on ThazDope Records and misc. Along with releases on Crown Collective and Phuture. How was 2017 in your eyes?
Leet: A transformative one. I learned a lot about myself in 2017. While much of it pertained to my personal life, I also learned a lot about myself musically. Experimenting with new genres and sounds was essential to my growth this past year, and I’m looking forward to continue experimenting in 2018.

Phuture: This year you also had a hand full of collabs with names like RVKIT, JuLo and sktchy ppl just to name a few. Which projects were you most excited to work on and why?
Leet: Really stoked with my collab with sfam, we’ve been sitting on it for a little while but we’re finally planning on releasing it sometime this year. Working with sfam was a pleasant experience altogether, those guys are incredible at what they do. Without a doubt they’re on track to blow up this year.

Phuture: With seemingly infinite ways to start a new track, what is your typical process to start a new project?
Leet: I just doodle. Spontaneous. It’s honestly hard for me to specify how exactly I start, I just feel inspired and open my DAW and doodle. Sometimes the final product comes out cool.

Phuture: I hear plenty of hip hop influences in your music, but what is your favorite style of music to listen to other than electronic music?
Leet: I grew up on rock music, so if I’m not listening to beats/hip-hop, I’m listening to rock music, but mostly the rock music I grew up listening to. It’s timeless and nostalgic.

Phuture: If you had to do one thing for the rest of your life; unrelated to music, what would it be?
Leet: Freefall.
____________________________________________________________
Phuture: If you had no limits and you could do absolutely anything, what would your ideal day consist of?
Leet: Eating abhorrent amounts of sushi.
____________________________________________________________
Phuture: If you were limited to only being able to listen to 3 artists for the next year, who would they be and why?
Leet: Tsuruda, Eazybaked, Eprom. These guys literally push boundaries with every release. I get bored very easily of certain sounds or styles, but it never fails that I get excited as shit to listen to a new track from any of these people.

Phuture: 2017 seemed to be a good year for you. What is the most helpful thing you’ve learned to help yourself grow as a producer/person this year.
Leet: Stop comparing yourself to other artists and focus on your own sound.
____________________________________________________________
Phuture: We here at Phuture hope to see big things from you this year. What are some goals you are hoping to reach in 2018 and beyond?
Leet: I want to visit places I never thought I’d have the opportunity to visit. Traveling has always been a huge passion of mine, and being able to express myself creatively in different places is the goal.
