meet : balesie

What are you doing at this very moment [besides this interview]?

Sitting in my underwear, watching a Diplo/Skrillex interview with Charlie Rose on Youtube. Really cool, I would suggest watching it if you’re into producing, DJ’ing or just electronic music in general

What part of the world are you from and what’s the music scene like there?

I’m from a small town in central Illinois. Not a lot of live shows or anything around here, but everyone still loves music. Most people like country music or top 40 type stuff. I’m the odd man out, and the only producer I know of from my town

Favorite food and drink! Go!

Pizza and beer, can’t go wrong!

What DAW do you use? Favorite plugins?

I use Ableton and currently just use Ableton’s plugins like operator because I’m too broke to get massive, sylenth, etc. Samples are my friend.

Why do you produce and what keeps you going?

I produce simply because I love music. Making something you love is fucking exhilarating, especially when you watch yourself slowly progress and get better. I just want to make something that people can enjoy. I want to express myself through music

Where would you go if you were given an all-expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world?

Somewhere warm, with beaches and great food.

What is the meaning of life?

Fuck bitches, get money. Just kidding! I guess the meaning of life is to do anything and everything that makes you happy. You only get one as far as we know, definitely gotta make the best of it

Where do you see yourself 1 year from now? 2 years? 5 years?

1 year: Still in school, still producing, hopefully have a better following and can play some small shows.
2 years: Pretty much the same as 1 year from now.
5 years: WORLD TOUR!! Just kidding again… but to go on any sort of tour is my ultimate goal. Music is what I love most, I would like for it to be the only thing I do, at least for a little while

Who are some up and coming producers that we should check out?

One up and coming producer I really like is Heffy out of Chicago. He recently released an EP through Moomba+ records which is fantastic, and even had a release through Daruma. Another is BABE who does both trap and future bass stuff. Every one of his songs is great.

What four songs have been the most influential to where you’ve gotten today?

1. Core by RL Grime– I’m a basic RL fanboy so of course I love this track, but it really is incredible. It basically got me thinking “What if I started making some beats?” I’ll never make a track that dope but that song really got me interested in producing.
2. Ekali and Gravez remix of Threatz. Those kicks. That bass. I strive for my production quality to be as clean as this song.
3. Kasbo – Something Sad. This one just has so much emotion. I don’t want to just make songs, I want emotion to be in them too.
4. What So Not– Gemini ft. George Maple. So good. So so good. Just another song with production quality that I hope to achieve.

What is in store for us to look forward to? An album perhaps?

Hopefully an EP in the next few months. But if not, I’ll always keep singles coming. Stay tuned!
