Interview curated by Soba & Floret Loret & Michael of phuture.
phuture: Welcome M i s t e r / L, with your 4th release on phuture! For The Third Floor this will be your debut with us, and we welcome you warmly <3. The idea of you two working together still gives us goosebumps, even though we’ve heard your track ten times. Firstly, what did you have for breakfast?!
M i s t e r / L : Banana, PB, blueberry, coconut milk smoothie and 2 hashbrowns.
The Third Floor : Some coffee, a few eggs a slice of toast and an antibiotic drink consisting of garlic, apple cider vinegar and hot sauce because i’m sick.

phuture: What spawned you two to work together?!
The Third Floor : Well I dropped a WIP of my track in the Phuture Discord chat and Mister/L said he wanted to work with me on it. Knowing how amazing he is I of course said yes.
M i s t e r / L : Basically same thing he said. I wanted to hop on any track possible with TTF because I love his music haha.
phuture: What kind of advice would you give to someone to develop their signature sound or to even start a track?
M i s t e r / L : When it comes to developing a signature sound my thoughts are it takes a lot of time and compositions. You just have to keep writing and developing both stylistic and technical techniques that slowly form into your own sound. If you don’t have inspiration to start a track then don’t start it at that time.
The Third Floor : Well developing a sound that is COMPLETELY your own is almost impossible because all the music you hear is in a style that has already been created. It’s kind of like creating a color that is completely different than every other color. You can’t. So instead of striving to be completely different than everything else my advice is to make what you hear in your head. This will spark more creativity in you because you will enjoy it more and it is honestly the truest music to the self that a musician can make.
phuture: What does success look like to you?
M i s t e r / L : A lot of free time with the people I love.
The Third Floor : A life that can be sustained off of doing what I love.
phuture: Why did you get into music in the first place? What birthed your creative ingenuity?
M i s t e r / L : When I didn’t like being in the crowd anymore. Creativity is my nature and will brought it to fruition.
The Third Floor : Well I started playing piano at 6 i think. I didn’t really get into music until i turned 9 though when i started playing saxophone. My dad turned me on to Jazz and musicians such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and other amazing musicians and from there all i really wanted to do was make music. Eventually I came across hip-hop production and then Trap. I think i like trap so much because of how much you can do creatively. There is a basic set of defining features that sets it apart from other genres but those features are very loose and there is a huge amount of room to interpret them.
phuture: How would you describe HEARTBREAK in no more than 10 words?
M i s t e r / L : Who tf knew it would be that hard.
The Third Floor : Heartbreak is a motivator for change.

phuture: Our music is here for a greater purpose. To give inspiration, hope, and messages to listeners all around the world. How else can we as artist’s better the planet?
M i s t e r / L : If you have a platform/voice to raise awareness that is a real game changer. Also personal contact and workshops, anything to give back.
The Third Floor : I think just by becoming better at what we do and creating better music we can help people more. I know for a lot of people music can be an escape from their own lives. It can take one to a completely different world. I really think that music is a therapy for listeners just as much as as it is for the creators.

phuture: Have you ever used any psychedelic or mind altering substances, either to influence your sound, or otherwise? What are your thoughts on psychedelics?
M i s t e r / L : I have never used any psychedelics. Maybe would try microdosing because I have heard of some positive benefits from it. But I use kush almost daily for many reasons. With music, it opens up my mind and helps me concentrate.
The Third Floor : I’ve used psychedelics to influence my sound, inspire me or even just to try and figure out my shit and my life. I think that if used in the right mindset they can be a powerful tool to use for creation, and discovering who you are and where your existence stands in the universe.
