stripes and his ‘gurl’

 Listen/Download

Phuture : stripes!!! It’s so good to welcome you aboard Phuture Collective <3. You’ve been a lovely and active part of our platform/network so it’s only right for you to be featured on our issue nine | TRANQUILITY. Tell the world a bit about yourself & what you had for breakfast!

stripes : Yoyoyo! I’m stoked to be a part of Phuture. I’m a 22 year old resident of San Francisco, and for breakfast I had cold coffee.

Phuture : Let’s talk about ‘gurl’. What inspirations went into this track? How do you feel it fits the theme of ‘TRANQUILITY’?

stripes : I’ve been listening to a lot of lofi-ish and beat driven stuff from people like Quickly Quickly, and also a ton of the genre-bending tunes from Fete Records. This track is me painting all of these influences over a super mellow chord progression.

Phuture : How long have you been producing & what’s your setup look like?

stripes : I’ve been at it for about a year and a half now. I don’t have anything too special, just a Macbook and some earbuds for me the vast majority of the time. I have a decent home studio, but I find that inspiration usually strikes while I’m out and about at a coffee shop or a bar or something.

Phuture : How would you describe your music to someone who is deaf?

stripes : 90s babymaking music with 808s and a healthy helping of Serum

Phuture : What is your dream collab? If you had the chance to work with any other musician or artist, who would you want it to be and why?

stripes : It’s gotta be West1ne. Everything he does is so different from everything out there right now.

Phuture : Several members insist that anything you churn out is ‘gold’, ‘lit’, ‘amazing’, etc. While we can only agree, what goes into your consistency and how does positive feedback affect your continuity?

stripes : If anything, I’d say I’m the least consistent person in the Phuture crew, soundwise. Every time I start a new track, it’s because I heard someone I look up to do something crazy.

I think the secret to making good tunes is to never stop listening and communicating with your producer crew. We all stand on the shoulders of giants, and giving/getting feedback (especially constructive and positive feedback) is how you grow.

Phuture : Give us a shout-out of 3 artists who deserve more recognition!

stripes : For me it has to be Summet, Twenty Weeks, and Roland Chuang. All three of these guys have incredibly unique and curated sounds
